General Development Requirements

  • Visual Studio 2008 Standard or above.
  • .NET Framework 3.5
  • An SSL certificate (self signed is fine as long as any relying party trusts it, or the signing root, otherwise you can use the fabrikam/contoso/woodgrove bank certificates distributed as part of the SimpleSTS, available from http://cardspace.netfx3.com/files/folders/samples_rc_1/entry6082.aspx
  • The private key of the SSL certificate must be available to your account if you are using the command line STS or the account IIS (ASPNET under XP, Network Service under Vista/2003/2008) is using if you are hosting the STS under IIS.

Command Line STS Notes

The Command Line STS requires the following;
  • The SSL certificate must be bound to the MEX port (by default 9001). Instructions for this are included in the readme file in that project.
  • If you are using Vista or Windows2008 you must also reserve the endpoints, again please see the readme.

Would the current implementation be able to be hosted in a shared hosting environment, given IIS7?

Hi Daniel,
Firstly - Glad to hear about your intentions to utilise SharpSTS within your work for DotNetNuke.

The answer is Yes, SharpSTS will work as long as the host configures access security permissions to the SSL certificate.
